Seven people enjoyed a superb day’s walking through the Horse’s Glen, and up the south-east gully onto Mangerton. Lunch was had sitting on a grassy knoll in the Horse’s glen in warm sunshine, looking out over the mid-Kerry plain, with the occasional rumble of falling snow and ice from the cliffs in the glen. There is still plenty of snow on the mountain top, with some drifts nearly knee deep. We have never seen the summit of a mountain so busy before – people appeared from all sides to congregate on the summit, at the punchbowl, and on the path down. Total walking time was 6 hours, with only a brief hint of rain.

9 members and 2 guests enjoyed a wonderful Coomloughra Horshshoe in perfect weather condition on St. Valentine’s Day ’10. 7 hours on the hill in calm conditions with blue skies and warm sunshine. Looking out over the county there were many areas clouded in smoke due to the large number of hill burnings (is this illegal?). We thought that dipping our toes in the stream at the end of the day would be refreshing. Not so, it was excruciating, the water was so cold! A visit to the Climber’s Inn finished the day nicely. Thank you all for the great company and the many laughs. Mary.

Welcome to Laune Mountaineering Club!
We walk every second Sunday, usually with a more strenuous route and either a moderate or an easy trip on the walking calendar. We vary starting times to suit those who can not spend a whole day on the mountain, and try to bring all groups together for a social drink in a pub at the end of each walk. Walks are mainly in the Kerry area, but we try and fit in a weekend away to another part of the country during the year as well. New members are always welcome, download an application form if interested or find out more about us.
